Time goes by and fortunately viruses too!

Wow, I haven't written here for quite a while! Now that I have some time to do it, I find this blog has been "sleeping" since I last wrote. No new comments, no clicks on my publicity banner on the top of the site... Anyway, I've been sick for 1 1/2 months now. Finally I'm getting better and after a lot of exams they only showed that it was a virus. Which one it was, we will never know! So, if you're having fever for more than a week, even if you don't have any other symptoms, go to a doctor!!! There's a lot of viroses around...

CO2 emissions in Portugal

According to a study, Portugal will be in the future the country from the EU with the most high rate of CO2 emissions! This is a very bad view for a country taht signed the Kyoto Prtocol! What can be done to stop this tendency and reduce the emissions? Because the fine will be extremely high for our country to pay if it doesn't reduce this. How can we then convince the Americans to sign this protocol if we ourselves can't keep our promise?

Lizards and Snakes

I've never mentioned that my main job is studying lizards, the smaller ones. I really like studying them. I'm a bit afraid of snakes, though I'm sure in the future I'll have to pick some as I'm included on a team of herpetologists. Herepetology is the science that studies Reptiles and Amphibians.
I just want to warn people that those little lizards they find in their homes and walls aren't dangerous and also don't have gummy substances on their bodies. So why do you think they're disgusting? Try to pick one someday and you'll know they're actually cute! Quite smooth and not sticky like most people think! So, next time you see one, don't throw a rock on them, don't try to kill them... They're actually very important beings to maintain Nature's equilibrium!

People who brag about things they don't know

It just makes me sad when people use the media to talk about things they don't know about. Today I was watching TV and this man, apparently a reporter, was talking about a paternity test which had a wrong result and caused a marriage to end. I'm not saying he was wrong to bring this case up. I'm aware that some labs have some bad professionals on it and probably this was a case like that. But what really made me angry was that this man started talking about paternity tests and human genetics like if he really knew what it was all about and worse: he was saying wrong things about the methods used on this kind of tests. He ended up saying "People don't need a course to know these things!" And I asked myself: "Oh, really?" I had a whole semester at college about this matter and this man claims to know everything about it! But soon he made a big mistake. He started talking about how many genetic markers the scientists need to make a paternity test and when the host of the show asked him what were these "markers" he just said: "I don't know, I'm no expert on this matter." I only hope that the people watching it can be a bit curious and search something more about it, because he didn't.

Portuguese Elections - Finally some hope! :)

Finally we got rid of that "jet-set" prime-minister! And the left side of politics got a lot stronger! Congratulations to Portugal!!!
Let's hope the new prime-minister will keep his promise of investing in technology and science!

Free Offers: Why Only US and UK?

While surfing the Internet you can now apply for thousands of free offers. But what's more frustrating to me and I'm sure a lot of people worldwide is that most of them are only valid in US or UK. OK, sometimes also in Canada.:) Why is that? I know they have to pay more for post expenses but what if the person who applies for these offers is willing to pay those expenses? I think I wouldn't mind paying that if I could win 1 free iPOD or 1 free laptop! That's just not fair!
